National Ski Areas Association Climate Challenge

What is the Climate Challenge?

The Climate Challenge is a voluntary program dedicated to helping participating ski areas reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and reap other benefits in their operations, such as reducing costs for energy use.

How Will a Ski Area Benefit?

In addition to taking a leadership role in the industry's efforts to fight climate change, the ski area will directly benefit from participation in the program.

President Obama releases Climate Action Plan

On June 25, 2013, President Obama released his Climate Action Plan, which directs his Administration and the U.S. EPA to use their legal authority to address climate change. The plan includes pledges from the President to cut carbon pollution; support adaptation efforts in order to build more resilient communities in the face of severe weather; and to take a leadership position internationally.

More Than 100 Ski Areas Sign Climate Declaration, Calling for U.S. Policy Action on Climate Change

Today, 108 ski areas from around the United States joined with 40 other businesses, Ceres and its BICEP (Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy) in signing the Climate Declaration, which calls upon federal policymakers to seize the American economic opportunity of addressing climate change.
